Gladys Books & Wine is a Black lesbian-owned bookstore and wine lounge newly opened in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, created by former tech professional Tiffany Dockery as a gathering place and safe space centered on Black queer femme culture. Named after her grandmother Gladys—whose home was Dockery’s first safe space—the shop offers books alongside coffee, tea, and wine, and hosts community-driven events like poetry readings, film screenings, workshops, and game nights. Opening amid ongoing gentrification in the neighborhood, Gladys Books & Wine stands as a love letter to Black women, chosen family, and the belief that, as Nikki Giovanni said, Black love is Black wealth.
